Welcome to this year’s 50th Kronborg Chess Open EMT Chess Tournament

Helsingør Skakklub (Elsinore Chessclub) invites chessplayers to 7 rounds FIDE round robin in 4 days. The International Chess EMT Tournament is open for all players.

Kronborg International Chess Tournament is named after the famous castle Kronborg Castle, located in Elsinore – the home of Hamlet.

There is a view to the castle directly from the game room which is located down to the beach on the Marienlyst Beach Hotel.

We offer an international chess tournament in great surroundings with the possibility to stay at the playing venue.

INTERNATIONAL CHESS TOURNAMANT

Kronborg Chess Open is an international chess tournament with a total prize sum is over DKK 20,000 (€3.000), depending on the number of participants.

In 2022, the tournament was Denmarks largest international Chess Tournament with participants from 13 different nations. We had participants from Norway, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia,France, Italy, Faroe Islands, Indonesia, India and of course Denmark. We are therefore looking forward to see as many nationalities and levels together with Danish chess players in the 2023 Tournament.

 

Round robin or Monrad chess tournament

The tournament is divided into groups of 8 players Round Robin. The group selection is according to the Danish National rating. If you have an FIDE rating it will be equated with the Danish rating. The report time is 90 minutes to each player for the whole game + 30 seconds increment per. move. Note there is no extra time added after move 40.

RATE OF PLAY

90 minutes per player for the whole game plus 30 seconds increment for every move played starting from the first move.

Note: You are allowed to be up to 1 hour late for your game. Further delay means that you lose your game.

 

TOURNAMENT

7 rounds Round Robin in Groups of 8 | The lowest ranking group is played as Monrad system if there are more than 8 players.

The winner of the top group is awarded the title Kronborg Master. Placing are determined by 1. mutual confrontation / 2. Winnings / 3. Sonneborn-Berger correction if the score is tied.

The above prizes are at a participant number of min. 72. There may be adjustments in prizes depending on the participant numbers and rating level.
